Paneer Butter Masala – A Creamy & Rich North Indian Curry
Paneer Butter Masala is a rich and creamy North Indian curry made with butter, tomatoes, onions, and aromatic spices. It’s one of the most popular dishes served in Indian restaurants — and the good news is, you can make it easily at home too!

Paneer Butter Masala Ingredients:
- 200–250 grams paneer (cut into cubes)
- 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
- 2–3 tbsp fresh cream
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander (for garnish)
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and spices (as per taste)
- 1/2 cup tomato puree (optional for gravy base)
How to Make Paneer Butter Masala:
1. Start with the Base:
Heat 1 tbsp butter in a non-stick pan.
If you’re making a gravy, add 1/2 cup of tomato puree at this stage.
Cook well until the oil separates from the puree.
2. Add Paneer & Kasuri Methi:
Now add the paneer cubes and sprinkle 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi.
Cook for 2–3 minutes on low flame.
⚠️ Do not overcook, or the paneer may turn hard.
3. Make it Creamy:
Add 2–3 tbsp of fresh cream to make the gravy smooth and rich.
Mix everything well. You’ll see the gravy become thick and creamy.
4. Adjust the Taste:
Check salt and spices — adjust as needed.
If the gravy feels too thick, you can add a little water.
5. Ready to Serve:
Transfer to a serving bowl.
Top with 1 tbsp cream and garnish with chopped coriander.
Serve hot with naan, tandoori roti, paratha, or jeera rice.
When to Serve:
This dish is ideal for:
- Special occasions
- Weekend meals
- Family get-togethers
- Dinner parties
It’s a flavourful, comforting meal that’s guaranteed to impress!
